As a former civil legal aid attorney who focused on eviction defense work, I have a special interest in housing issues.
Today in The Boston Globe there is an article about a program in Boston that provides housing for senior citizens who were once homeless. Notably, the program, which provides housing to 136 people in 7 complexes, also provides supportive services for its residents such as healthcare and personal care. The article cites sources who say that this type of model which focuses on both housing and supportive care for elders cannot be found in other cities.
To get on my soapbox for a moment, it seems like a cruel irony that the federal government can give $750 billion to private banks with basically no strings attached and that senior citizens can be homeless. How about giving them a bailout too?
