After a trial in a New Jersey state court in Atlantic City, a jury awarded three plaintiffs $12.9 million in damages against Roche for inflammatory bowel disease that each claimed was caused by its acne drug, Accutane.
The plaintiffs were all Florida residents and each is under age 30. They claimed that Roche failed to provide a proper warning for the drug. About 13 million people have taken Accutane and it was Roche’s second-largest selling drug until it went generic in 2002. It has been linked to numerous medical impairments and is the subject of 550 lawsuits.
